UP prof, solar power expert is new VP for Development

Associate Professor Rowaldo “Wali” Del Mundo of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute, College of Engineering, University of the Philippines Diliman, is the UP System’s newly-appointed Vice President for Development, effective August 3. 

 

He is concurrent CoE associate dean for public engagement, heads the EEEI Power Systems Simulation Laboratory, and is the faculty representative to the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. Board of Trustees for Academic Year 2026-2027.

 

A power systems expert, he champions research on solar power in the Philippines. He led a team of UP experts who designed the Smart-Solar Home Systems, an initiative supporting the National Electrification Administration’s Accelerated Total Electrification Program that aims to address the lack of electricity in remote communities. His work also inspired the development of the UPD Power Supply Retail Aggregation Program, a renewable energy strategy that aims to lessen electricity costs through the use of solar panels.

 

Del Mundo earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering at UPD. As vice president for development, he will lead the planning and funding of the university’s development projects and expansion.
