UAAP S86 podiums and plums: UP ends 1st sem at 2nd overall

The University is at second place for the general championship at the halfway mark of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86, with 172 points. The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is first with 202 points and the Ateneo de Manila University is third with 167 points.

“UP Fight! Isang Pagdiwang ng Utak at Pusong Palaban,” was held on February 9 at the University Theater in UP Diliman (UPD) to celebrate first semester team and individual achievements in the seniors division. It was also a send-off for collegiate teams competing in second semester UAAP events and an early launch of UP’s hosting of Season 87.

The UP Fighting Maroons start their second semester events on February 17 with the men’s and women’s tennis teams battling it out against the squads from the University of the East and De La Salle University (DLSU), respectively, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

The next day, February 18, both men and women Maroon spikers face the Far Eastern University teams at the Mall of Asia Arena, while the men’s football team kicks off against the UST booters in the UPD Football Stadium.

February 24 sees UP versus UST at the UPD pitch in the women’s football tournament. More than two hundred meters away, the UPD Baseball/Softball Field sees UP-DLSU softball action on the same day.
