UP president welcomes UoR delegation

University of the Philippines President Angelo Jimenez hosted a reception at the Executive House, UP Diliman, for the University of Reading delegation, following the Climate and Sustainability Forum at Balaw Kalinaw, Aug. 5. 

 

Titled, From Climate Prediction to Climate Resilience: Research, Capacity Development and Resilient Infrastructure in the Philippines, the forum was organized by UP Los Baños through its Office of International Linkages, School of Environmental Science and Management and its Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Water, in partnership with UoR.

UoR Malaysia Provost and Chief Executive Officer May Tan-Mullins led the UoR delegation, which was composed of: Rose Armour, secretariat director of the International Universities Climate Alliance, which is currently hosted by the UoR; Emmanuel Essah, head of the School of the Built Environment; Simon Mortimer, head of the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development; Alex Arnall, head of the school’s Department of International Development; Sarah Cardey, international officer for the Department of International Development; Lamma Zghoul, senior global partnerships manager; Henny Oshbar, global development research division, research development lead; Sarah Cardey, international officer for the Department of International Development; and Hicham Yezza, a UoR visiting fellow and principal data scientist for responsible artificial intelligence at the British Broadcasting Corporation. 

 

Jimenez previously visited UoR to advance the internationalization initiatives of all UP constituent universities. In 2018, the UP Board of Regents approved the UPLB-UoR Dual PhD by Research Program, then the first of its kind in the country. Both parties met early this year to discuss the expansion of the dual PhD offering and a possible dual master’s program.
