The University of the Philippines (UP) Office of the Vice President for Administration successfully conducted the LINANG 2.0 Trainers’ Certification Program on June 10 and 11 at the Institute for Small-Scale Industries in UP Diliman. This was a major step in its goal to reach and train over 14,500 employees across the UP System on dynamic relationships, social responsibility, appropriate behaviors, and quality of work.

With the strong support of UP President Angelo Jimenez, the two-day program certified a total of 63 trainers: 23 in the Relationship Operations and Sensitivity Enhancement Seminar (ROSES); 21 in the Work Attitude and Value Enhancement Seminar (WAVES); and 19 in Completed Staff Work. They have been equipped to facilitate the program’s rollout in their respective units, ensuring the consistent and quality delivery of learning modules.

Spearheaded by Vice President for Administration Augustus Resurreccion, the LINANG team was joined by course developers and resource speakers, Assistant VPs Tiffany Adelaine Tan and Richard Javier, and Program Development Associate Pepito Dizon in facilitating this milestone training. LINANG 1.0 alumni also attended the event.

Why LINANG 2.0?

Since its inception, LINANG 1.0 has been guided by a clear and compelling vision: to empower every employee by strengthening their core competencies, grounded in the UP values of honor and excellence. These values manifest not only in the quality of work but also in how respect and collaborative relationships are built within the university.

LINANG 2.0 was created to accelerate the program’s reach and impact — aiming to train more personnel within a shorter time frame. Its key objective is to develop a dedicated pool of certified trainers who can deliver consistent, high-quality sessions across all units.

Inside the program

The program was formally opened by Resurreccion, who reminded participants that LINANG is not just a “feel-good” initiative, but a transformative program that aims to build a strong foundation for every UP employee in the service of the University and the nation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening dynamic relationships, enhancing work values, and fostering a culture of excellence.

Following this, Tan provided an overview of the program’s objectives, expectations, and the strategic role of the certified trainers in sustaining and expanding the reach of LINANG 1.0. She emphasized one key objective of the program: the trainers’ willingness to eventually serve as resource persons for future training sessions.

Javier then discussed core principles of adult learning, while PDA Dizon highlighted the key characteristics of an effective trainer and facilitator. Their sessions laid the groundwork for the breakout sessions that followed.

Track Sessions and Support System

Participants, vetted by their respective human resource offices and endorsed by chancellors and unit heads, were divided according to their chosen module. Each session allowed for deeper engagement with the content and a focused development of facilitation skills specific to their track.

A final component of the training was a session led by LINANG support staff, Maeven Enciso, who walked participants through the logistical and coordination aspects of the program — from sending invitations and liaising with units, to managing training runs and post-program documentation. Her session underscored that the success of LINANG is anchored not only in strong facilitation but also in effective backend support.

Looking Ahead

LINANG 2.0 concluded with a message from Jimenez, reaffirming the administration’s support for the professional development of its personnel. This was followed by closing remarks from Resurreccion, who thanked the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to carry the spirit of LINANG into their own units.
