The University of the Philippines, represented by UP President Angelo Jimenez, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, represented by Chairman Romando Artes, signed a memorandum of understanding, Oct. 21 at the Asian Institute of Tourism, UP Diliman.

The two-year MOU aims to promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest, facilitate knowledge-sharing, research, and capacity-building activities, and support the development and implementation of programs, projects, or initiatives.

In the press conference that followed the signing ceremony, it was revealed by both parties that one of the projects to be pursued is the design and construction of flood detention basins in identified and thoroughly-assessed locations across the metro.

Specific activities that result from the MOU will be governed by separate memoranda of agreement.
