Joint research and learning activities, information exchange, and sharing of human resources. These are, in broad strokes, the cooperation areas covered by the memorandum of understanding between the University of the Philippines and the Korea Water Resources Corporation, signed April 17 in UP Diliman.
UP President Angelo Jimenez and K-water Vice President and Chief Learning Officer Yeongkong Ko were the signatories.

The discussion prior to the signing revolved around identifying UP units appropriate for the partnership. Initially named were the UP Resilience Institute for flood control and environmental sustainability, and the UP Diliman College of Engineering for infrastructure development, hydraulics research, and smart systems.
K-water is Korea’s state-owned water resource management agency, responsible for water resource-related facilities — from construction to operation to management. Apart from supplying water to residences and commercial establishments, K-water also treats water for industrial use. The agency is also heavily involved in renewable energy production, and flood control and mitigation.
