The University of the Philippines Board of Regents, in its 1408th Meeting, April 30 at the UP Bonifacio Global City campus in Taguig, approved the establishment of the School of Medicine in UP Mindanao, which will offer the Doctor of Medicine Program starting May; the institution of the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology in the UP Manila College of Allied Medical Professions, which is open to recent UPCAT qualifiers; and the creation of the UP Collective Mentorship Program, which aims to enhance graduate education, research, creative work, innovation, and public service.

The UP BOR also approved the establishment of the Jacoba de Guzman Viray Professorial Chair at the UP Diliman School of Library and Information Studies, the Joven R. Cuanang Scholarship Fund for the Arts and Sciences Grant at the College of Fine Arts, and the Scholars for Better Communities Scholarship Fund.

The institutionalization of Buwan ng Unibersidad and the Gawad Pangulo: Pagkilala sa Karangalan at Kahusayan sa Paglilingkod para sa Bayan were also approved by the Board to enhance implementation of system-wide activities, from a week-long to a month-long commemoration of the university’s foundation in June of every year, and to strengthen the Gawad Pangulo as a recognition program. These activities aim to honor and celebrate the contributions of UP academics; administrative staff; research, extension, and professional staff; students; and alumni, and to highlight the exemplary achievements of people, units, and groups for the rest of the university community to emulate. Proposed amendments were prepared by the Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs.

Other proposals were likewise approved, such as: reprogramming of funds from prior years, UP Diliman Power Supply Retail Aggregation Program, procurement of three electric tricycles for the UPD Public Safety and Security Office, and the UP Los Baños Rental Housing Project.
