
Following the elevation of University of the Philippines Tacloban as the ninth constituent university of the UP System by the Board of Regents, May 27, UP President Angelo Jimenez issued the same-day Administrative Order No. PAJ-26-71, initiating the search process for UP Tacloban’s first chancellor.

The search committee shall consist of two senior faculty members; one junior faculty member; one research, extension, and professional staff representative; one administrative personnel representative; one student representative; and one representative of the UP President. Nominations must be submitted to the Office of the Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents by June 15.
Jimenez will appoint the members of the search committee on or before June 22. From this time forth, nominations for the chancellorship position must be submitted to OSU or to any member of the search committee not later than July 10.
By August 14, the search committee must provide Jimenez with a comprehensive report detailing the search process, the final list of nominees, and an evaluation of each nominee’s strengths and weaknesses. The search committee report endorsed by the UP President will then be submitted to the Board for final deliberation, Aug. 27.
The said administrative order was issued by Jimenez in accordance with Section 18 of Republic Act No. 9500 or the UP Charter of 2008 which states, “The Chancellor of the constituent university shall be elected by the Board upon nomination of the President of the University, following a process of consultation with the constituents of the constituent university based on standards and guidelines set by the Board.”
Dr. Patricia Arinto, who was dean of UP Tacloban at the time of its elevation to CU, is acting chancellor.
