The DNA Analysis Laboratory of the Natural Sciences Research Institute, University of the Philippines Diliman has formally launched its Sexual Assault Investigation Kit as part of its 30th anniversary celebration, May 19. The commercial licensing agreement between UPD, represented by Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II, and Manila HealthTek Inc., represented by CEO Raul Destura, for the production of SAI.Kit was signed during the event.
A giant leap toward a more stable, well-documented, and user-friendly collection, transport, and storage of trace evidence in sexual assault cases, SAI.Kit’s official release was lauded by relevant government agencies through their officials: Department of Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr.; Department of Health-Women’s and Men’s Health Division Chief Ann Ysabel Andres, representing Secretary Teodoro Herbosa; Department of Interior and Local Government-National Capital Region Director Maria Lourdes Agustin, representing Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla; Department of Social Welfare and Development Assistant Secretary Ada Colico, representing Secretary Rex Gatchalian; and Department of Justice Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez, representing Secretary Fredderick Vida.
