An endowment fund of $25,000, or PhP1.5 million, was donated to the University of the Philippines to establish the Salvacion G. Bailon-Reyes Professorial Chair at the College of Nursing of UP Manila. Roque Bailon, donor and brother of Bailon-Reyes, signed the deed of donation, with UP President Angelo Jimenez accepting on the university’s behalf. The event took place Sept. 16 at the Executive House, UP Diliman.

Bailon-Reyes is a UPCN alumna who contributed significantly to the growth of community health nursing in the country. Her books are used as references in the nursing curriculum.

Under the deed, UP Foundation, Inc. will manage the donation to support an annual grant of PhP80,000 to the recipient of the professorial chair. The formal establishment of the professorial chair is subject to the approval of the UP Board of Regents and shall be governed by applicable university policies and guidelines.
