The Philippine Association of University Women-University of the Philippines Chapter (PAUW-UP) will launch on July 5, 2025, a dynamic series of art workshops as part of the PAUW Haus Arts Workshop + Festival, culminating in a three-day Arts Festival set for September or October this year.
This initiative upholds PAUW’s longstanding commitment to enhance education, cultural appreciation and enrichment, community service, and inclusivity, while welcoming diverse communities to participate in creative, socially conscious learning experiences.
Spearheaded by the PAUW-UP Committee on Arts, Culture, Music, and History, the PAUW Haus Arts Workshop + Festival draws inspiration from the progressive spirit of the Bauhaus and feminist art movements. It serves as a creative and inclusive platform not only for PAUW-UP members, but for friends, families, the university community, art patrons, and the general public. The artistic creations from the workshops will be exhibited and offered for sale at the festival, generating support for the sustainability and growth of community-based arts initiatives.
The Workshop Series begins with a Ceramics Workshop on July 5, a hands-on session in textured mug-making facilitated by Prof. Rita Gudiño, a pioneering force in Philippine ceramic arts. Scheduled on July 12 are the following events: Printmaking Workshop with the Hanan Printmaking Group; and Puppet Making Workshop facilitated by Aina Remolete, Associate Director of puppet theater company, Teatro Mulat ng Pilipinas, and V Soriano, a freelance artist from U.P. Los Baños with extensive experience in children’s theatre. The latter promises a fun, interactive session that celebrates Filipino puppetry traditions.
These activities are part of a broader slate of cultural programs — including the third edition of Tanghal Tertulia, a tribute to UP homegrown National Artists, slated for February 2026.
Dr. Grace Javier-Alfonso, Committee Chairperson, notes, “Our goal is to provide spaces for continuous learning and creative expression, offering meaningful engagement with the broader public. We encourage everyone to join us in discovering and sharing creativity.”
Committee Vice Chair, Prof. Mitzi Aguilar-Reyes, adds, “These workshops are more than just creative outlets; they embody PAUW’s mission to foster holistic development and contribute to a healthy and inclusive university environment.”
Workshops will be held at the UP Diliman College of Fine Arts Ceramics and Printmaking Studios and the UP Executive House. Proceeds from the workshop fees and participation will support the Association’s programs in early childhood education and the promotion of a healthier, more vibrant campus community.
PAUW-UP is headed by its President and Chairman, Atty. Edlyn V. Verzola, with Chief Operating Officer, Atty. Cynthia Nuval.
