Spirits were high as employees of the University of the Philippines System gathered for the opening of UP’s annual sportsfest, PaSIKLABan. The kick-off ceremony was held Feb. 19 at the Varsity Training Center, UP Diliman.
PaSIKLABan aims to promote holistic wellness, and foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among UP employees.
UP President Angelo Jimenez, in his opening remarks, said the event reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring its community’s well-being. He also expressed hope that the sportsfest, which began during his term, will grow into a UP tradition.

Apart from tournaments, this year’s event features a family day and a fun run for the UP community. Assistant Vice President for Administration and UP System Human Resource Development Office Director Richard Javier said in an interview that the proceeds of the fun run will benefit UP employees. “Hopefully, we can earn PhP1 million… so we can help the employees through eHOPE, the university’s hospitalization assistance for its employees,” Javier explained.
PaSIKLABan was organized by the Office for Athletics and Sports Development and the UP System HRDO, in partnership with the All UP Workers Union. The event runs from Feb. 19 to May 23, followed by a closing and awarding ceremony on May 24.
