The University of the Philippines has officially opened Buwan ng Unibersidad, June 2. This monthlong celebration of its founding anniversary is an extension of what used to be a weeklong series of activities. UP distributed the program of festivities throughout the month to accommodate a broader range of UP System-level initiatives planned for this period.

UP President Angelo Jimenez said the university’s anniversary used to be celebrated simply and would pass without much reflection and thought, which is why his administration spearheaded the Linggo ng Unibersidad at the beginning of his presidency, but he admitted that a week was not enough.

“The true measure of UP excellence is not only what we achieve, but whom we serve, whom we empower, and whose lives we help transform,” UP President Angelo Jimenez emphasizes at the Buwan ng Unibersidad opening, June 2 at Quezon Hall, UP Diliman. Photo by Bong Arboleda, UPS-MCO.

With the theme, Ani at Alay: Tumutugon. Naglilingkod. Para sa Bayan, Buwan ng Unibersidad opened with a program that began with a flag-raising ceremony at Quezon Hall, UP Diliman.

The event also saw the launch of UP’s  new institutional videos, which were produced by the UP Media and Communication Office.

We are not simply making history, we are making it,” UP Vice President for Public Affairs Marian Coquia-Regidor, who heads the Buwan ng Unibersidad organizing committee, says in her closing remarks at the opening of UP’s monthlong anniversary celebration.
