Dr. Shepherd Urenje and Dr. Brodie Beales meet with UP officials

Dr. Brodie Beales and Dr. Shepherd Urenje, plenary speakers at the University of the Philippines Strategic Conference on Sustainable Development held Nov. 18-20, met with UP President Angelo Jimenez and other university officials Nov. 21 at Quezon Hall, UP Diliman, to discuss sustainability-related initiatives.
Beales, director of the Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders Newcastle Centre, and Urenje, programme specialist in Education for Sustainable Development from the Swedish International Centre of Education for Sustainable Development, talked to UP officials on matters of mutual interest. Among these were projects and programs on sustainability already being implemented in their respective institutions.
Jimenez shared his administration’s plan to build an SDG hub within university property. He underscored the need for international collaboration to achieve sustainability goals.

UP-CIFAL Philippines Director Michelle Palumbarit and Office of International Linkages Director Dolores Cecilia Madrid joined Jimenez at the meeting.
The UP Strategic Conference on Sustainable Development was part of the month-long UP Sustainability Caravan organized by UP-CIFAL Philippines. The conference convened all UP constituent universities to align the UP System’s academic, research, extension, and governance functions with the 17 SDGs of the 2030 UN Agenda.
