His Excellency Jose Almodovar Cabrera III, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, paid a courtesy visit to University of the Philippines President Angelo Jimenez to discuss the embassy’s proposed academic partnership between UP and Kuwait University. The meeting was held Oct. 22 at Quezon Hall, UP Diliman.
The discussion focused on collaborative research activities, and academic exchange between UP and KU.
Cabrera also expressed the embassy’s interest in the implementation of the UP Ventures for International and Transformative Academia program for overseas Filipino workers in Kuwait. He explained that UP VINTA, which provides educational opportunities for OFWs, “matches well” with the programs and objectives of the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.
A prior exploratory meeting was held Oct. 6 between UP and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait to initially discuss potential areas of collaboration. Representing UP was Asst. Prof. Dolores Cecilia Madrid, assistant vice president for academic affairs (internationalization) and director of the UP Office of International Linkages.
The meeting concluded with both parties planning to formalize their collaboration through the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
