University of the Philippines Alumni Association President Fernando Sanchez Jr. took his oath as alumni regent during the UP Board of Regents’ 1412th meeting, Sept. 24 at the Asian Institute of Tourism, UP Diliman.
The Board also reappointed three incumbent chancellors: Dr. Michael Tee for a second term at UP Manila, alongside Dr. Jose Camacho Jr. of UP Los Baños and Dr. Clement Camposano of UP Visayas, both entering their third terms. They will serve until 2029.
Sanchez, recognized as one of the country’s pioneers in landscape horticulture and a former chancellor of UPLB, was elected UPAA president in August with the association’s new Board of Directors to serve a three-year term. Commission on Higher Education and UP BOR Chairperson Shirley Agrupis, together with UP President Angelo Jimenez, administered the new regent’s oath of office. The ceremony was witnessed by members of his family and the BOR.
Reappointment of 3 Chancellors
The Board’s deliberations and selection of chancellors of UPLB, UPM, and UPV followed later that day. Their respective terms as continuing chancellors are effective Nov. 1 and will end Oct. 31, 2029.
Tee, whose first term started in Oct. 2023, was the lone nominee for the UPM leadership. Camacho, meanwhile, was with fellow nominees Dr. Willie Abasolo, former dean of the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources; Dr. Elpidio Agbisit Jr., former UPLB Assistant Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs; and Dr. Rex Demafelis, dean of the UPLB College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology. Camposano was selected over nominee, Dr. Joefe Santarita, former dean of the Asian Center, UP Diliman.
The reappointments of Camacho and Camposano to their third terms as chancellors in UPLB and UPV, respectively, are historic firsts.
