The University of the Philippines strongly warns the public against individuals or groups fraudulently claiming to represent the University, its officials, or its constituent units in order to solicit money or donations.
We have received reports of unauthorized solicitations using the name of UP Cebu Chancellor Atty. Leo B. Malagar, allegedly for a fictitious “UP Cebu Red Cross.” Similar incidents have also been reported by other government agencies. The University categorically denounces these deceptive practices and reiterates that no individual is authorized to transact on behalf of UP or its officials outside established, official channels.
All financial transactions, donations, or assistance for the University must be processed only through its official offices and recognized foundations, such as the UP Foundation, Inc. or the respective Education and Research Foundations of its constituent units.
The public is advised to exercise vigilance and verify the legitimacy of any request claiming to be on behalf of the University.
To report suspicious solicitations or unauthorized use of UP’s name or identity, please contact:
UP Media and Public Relations Office via media@up.edu.ph
