The International Council for Open and Distance Education has opened submissions to its 31st World Conference next year, themed, Reimagining Education for a Sustainable Future.
Organized by the University of the Philippines Open University and ICDE, the conference will be held Nov. 15 to 19, 2027 in Cebu City. It is the country’s first time to host the global gathering on inclusive, flexible, and scalable education.
The event will bring together researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, and other education stakeholders to explore how the global education community can jointly address challenges in sustainability, equity, and rapid technological change.
It draws inspiration from the balangay, an ancient Filipino boat associated with collective navigation, shared purpose, and adaptability — values that underpin the conference’s focus on collaboration.
The conference is open for paper and poster presentations, concise talks, workshops, panel discussions, and practice and innovation showcases focusing on four areas:
- Flexible and inclusive learning
- Transformative technologies
- Credentials, skills and the future of work
- Communities, partnerships and global solidarity.
