Students of the University of the Philippines showcased their musical skills in a recital held June 3 at the Ignacio B. Gimenez-Kolehiyo ng Arte at Literatura Theater, UP Diliman. The performances conclude this year’s Hamon ng Himig, the university’s music tutoring program for its students.

Under the supervision of their facilitators from the UP College of Music, Hamon ng Himig participants featured music from the Philippines to Western countries. Students of the ukulele and guitar classes played their rendition of Western and Filipino popular music. Tutees of guitar and choral singing performed traditional folk songs from Luzon and Visayas, while the kulintang ensemble and Kalinga music classes introduced indigenous instrumental music.

The one-hour recital capped off with a collaborative performance of the Hamon ng Himig Batch 2 participants — collectively known as Hamon ng Himig Ensemble — performing the Filipino patriotic song, “Pilipinas Kong Mahal.”

This year’s Hamon ng Himig saw a total of 106 program completers hailing from UP Diliman, UP Los Baños, UP Manila, UP Open University, UP Mindanao, and UP Baguio. Eighty-six of the participants performed live at the blackbox theater.

The event was part of the 2026 Buwan ng Unibersidad, a monthlong celebration of UP’s 118th founding anniversary.
