University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) was named the top-performing school in the October 2024 Chemist Licensure Examination among schools with at least 50 examinees, according to an Oct. 21 release by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). Other UP constituent universities (CUs) also performed well in the licensure examinations for both chemists and chemical Technicians.
UPLB secured its spot with 48 out of 53 successful examinees for a 90.57% passing rate. Other UP CUs also performed well, with UP Manila achieving a 100% passing rate (15 out of 15 examinees), UP Diliman (UPD) at t (44 out of 49), and UP Visayas Iloilo City at 80.65% (25 out of 31).
UP CUs also met with similar success in the Licensure Examination for Chemical Technicians, with UP Diliman (39 out of 39) and UP Manila (14 out of 14) attaining a 100% passing rate, followed by UP Visayas (48 out of 50) with 96% and UPLB with 94.59% (70 out of 74).
UP graduates also ranked among the top 10 highest scorers in both exams. Among new chemists, UPD’s Joshua Aaron Barquilla Cabando placed fourth with a score of 90.95%, followed by UPD’s Christian Paul Ybañez Ende in sixth (90.45%), UPLB’s John Francis Garcia Antiola (90.25%) in seventh, and UPD’s Brainard Bontia (90.15%) in eighth.
In the chemical technician exam, UPD’s John Daniel Ramos Regala and Sherwyn Ysrael Meria Santos tied for third place with scores of 90.50%.
The PRC said that 592 out of 1088 hopefuls passed the Chemists Licensure Exam and 2,110 out of 2,711 passed the Chemical Technician Licensure Exam. This resulted in a 54.41% and 77.83% overall passing rate, respectively.
