UP’s role in spreading new knowledge and ideas propels the national university into the top 500 universities in the world and outranks universities in neighboring countries in terms of research citation.

UP soars to 70th among top universities from emerging economies

The University of the Philippines is now at the top 70 notable universities from emerging economies in 2020.

This is according to the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings, where the University had steadily risen from the top 201-250 bracket in 2017, to the top 166 in 2018, and to the top 87 in 2019.

UP would continue expanding under Villamor’s watch, with the Conservatory of Music; the University High School; the College of Education; and, the Junior College in Cebu City added under his watch

1909

The School of Fine Arts (1909), the College of Liberal Arts (1909), the College of Veterinary Medicine (1910), the College of Engineering (1910), the College of Agriculture (1906, in Los Baños, Laguna) follow to form the initial core of the newly established UP.

1905

The UP College of Medicine (then known as the Philippine Medical School) opens. It predates the opening of the University proper by 3 years.
