The University of the Philippines reaffirms its commitment to a principled, transparent, and inclusive process in the search for the next UP Diliman Chancellor.Â
Â
Consistent with the University’s tradition of democratic governance, a multi-sectoral Search Committee has been convened to undertake a consultative and participatory process. This Committee is tasked with gathering and synthesizing relevant information about the nominees, and to submit its report to the President, who will then forward it to the Board of Regents, the University’s highest governing body vested with the sole authority to appoint Chancellors.
Â
Integral to the Committee’s work are interviews and consultations with faculty as well as research, extension and professional staff (REPS), administrative staff, and students. These engagements ensure that diverse perspectives are heard, documented, and incorporated into the Committee’s report, ultimately for the consideration of the Board.Â
The Search Committee’s mandate is clear: to identify nominees who demonstrate outstanding qualifications, proven leadership, and a compelling vision for the University. Its work is not merely procedural but essential to providing the BOR with a comprehensive and well-informed basis for decision-making. The Committee endeavors to provide stakeholders and decision-makers with a meaningful choice by presenting at least two nominees for consideration. Rooted in historical precedents across the UP system, the University’s search process promotes broader engagement and strengthens the democratic selection of its leaders.Â
.
The University encourages all members of the UP community to participate actively in ongoing consultations and ensure that their views are represented. Such collective engagement is vital to the selection of a Chancellor who embodies the values, aspirations, and standards of excellence that distinguish the University of the Philippines.
