Following the success of its meal subsidy program over the last two years, the University of the Philippines, through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs-Office of Student Development Services and the UP Alumni Association, relaunched its Lingap Tanghalian project. The event was held on Oct. 13 at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman and was attended by student beneficiaries from UP Diliman and UP Los Baños.
Previously known as Lingap Hapunan, the Lingap Tanghalian program aims to provide lunch meals to UP students in need, “during the most academically demanding hours of the day.”
For its third run, Lingap Tanghalian extended its reach by including more UP constituent universities. Fifteen UP Diliman students and 15 UP Los Baños students will receive one lunch meal per school day from Oct. 13 to Dec. 12, 2025.
UP President Angelo Jimenez, in his inspirational message, highlighted his administration’s commitment to supporting the students’ well-being. “We are committed to taking care of you,” said Jimenez.
Roel Castro, first vice president of the UPAA, reaffirmed the alumni’s full support for the program. “This initiative is so close to our hearts because we’ve been there, and now we are in the position to give back.”
Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Ma. Shari Niña Oliquino, in her closing remarks, noted that their office is set to implement more student welfare projects.
The program concluded with student beneficiaries receiving their meal stubs.
In 2024, the Lingap Hapunan program benefited 50 UPD students. They were entitled to a free dinner at select food stalls in UP Gyud Food. The project ran from Oct. 29 to Dec. 17, 2024. Read about it here: https://up.edu.ph/lingap-hapunan-project-inilunsad/.
