Two significant enrichment activities were held for the teachers, administrative staff, and security guards of the PAUW-Child Study Center.
First Aid & Basic Life Support
This training was conducted on 21 July 2025 by the University Health Service (UHS) with the assistance of UHS’s Director, Dr. Oliva S. Basuel, MD. The Emergency Medical Team nurses, Mr. Lauro Reyes and Ms. Elma Silleza, went to the school to lecture and conduct practical application exercises.
The topics and practical exercises covered wound care, burn care, choking, responding to shock, managing nosebleeds, bandaging, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Annual refresher and retraining courses will be given to the teachers, staff, and security guards of the school so that they may assist in preserving life, preventing further harm, and promoting recovery, until professional medical help arrives.

The training was cut short due to the suspension of work due to the inclement weather, heavy rainfall, and flooding in some areas caused by the southwest monsoon (habagat). Memorandum Circular No. 88, series of 2025 ordered the suspension of government work and classes, and the school followed suit.
The remainder of the training, which will involve practical application for splints, various modes of lifting patients, and additional exercises, will be coordinated with the UHS.

Special Parental Authority
The two-hour lecture was conducted on 4 August 2025 by Atty. Anna Maria Dalena Abad, an alumna of UP Law Class of 1990 and current Dean of Adamson University College of Law.
Atty. Abad’s discussion covered the basis of special parental authority and its obligations under Articles 218-219 of the Family Code. She cited Supreme Court cases decided in 2024-2025, relevant provisions of other Philippine laws, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child.

The standard of care is the proper diligence required under the particular circumstances.
PAUW-CSC Head Teacher, Ms. Anmarie Omagtang Banez, said the teachers had so much fun learning and praised Atty. Abad for being an engaging speaker.
Upon the request of the teachers, another lecture from Atty. Abad will be scheduled, this time on the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10627) and the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (Republic Act No. 9262).
Both enrichment activities were done at the instance of the Philippine Association of University Women (PAUW) – UP Chapter. Both Dr. Basuel and Atty. Abad are members of the PAUW-UP Chapter. Atty. Cynthia D. Nuval is a Trustee and the Chief Operations Officer of PAUW-UP Chapter, and Atty. Edlyn Frances V. Verzola is the PAUW-UP Chapter’s President.
