A BOR resolution of October 28, 1977, establishes the Health Sciences Center in Manila as an autonomous unit of the UP System. This will later become the second autonomous university through Executive Order No. 519 in 1979.
The UP College of Medicine (then known as the Philippine Medical School) opens. It predates the opening of the University proper by 3 years.
