Recognizing the need for better trauma care in the Philippine health care system, Dr. Alvin Marcelo, director of the UP Manila (UPM) National Telehealth Center, suggested to the UP Diliman Department of Computer Science the creation of a database on injury information. “Only the untried is impossible,” said Prof. Antonio “Tony” A. Oposa Jr., a professor at the UP College of Law. In honor of his and other petitioners’ efforts to pave the way for the landmark Supreme Court decision that upheld the cleaning up and restoration of the Manila Bay, a recognition program was held at the Juliana R. Ricalde Faculty Lounge in the UP College of Law on January 20, 2009.
