How do I qualify for admission into the University of the Philippines?
Prospective UP students are screened through the UP College Admissions Test, or UPCAT.

The Varsity Athletic Admission System, administered by the College of Human Kinetics of UP Diliman, awards slots to exemplary athletes and talented dancers who may have not taken or passed the UPCAT, after a stringent system of tryouts. VAAS students are required to represent the university in national or international sports competitions to maintain their status as UP students.

What is the tuition fee rate in the UP?
As it is funded partly by the Philippine government, and private donations, the UP student shoulders a minimal tuition fee which is appropriately less than half than that of other universities like the Ateneo de Manila, La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas, while providing a wider range of courses and programs.

Through the Socialized Tuition and Financial Assistance Program, students avail of discounted tuition fees to full tuition fee waivers, plus cash subsidies, according to their individual income brackets.

Can I avail of scholarships and similar assistance in the UP?
Most colleges in the UP System offer scholarship opportunities in different programs—from the arts to the sciences. Some of the scholarships available throughout the UP System are the Oblation scholarship for the top fifty (50) passers of the UPCAT, the UP Government Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship Grant, the Leadership Grant and various private grants, all administered through the Office of Scholarships and Student Services (OSSS)

For inquiries, contact the OSSS at Room 302, Vinzons Hall, UP Diliman Quezon City 1101. Email address: cchernandez@up.edu.ph; iskol@up.edu.ph (Scholarships); or stfap@up.edu.ph

Meanwhile, the top fifty (50) passers of the UP College Admissions Test or UPCAT are automatically awarded the Oblation Scholarship. Oblation scholars enjoy full tuition exemption, as well as special allowances.

What kind of services can I expect as a UP student?
UP students are represented by a Student Regent in the Board of Regents, the University’s highest governing body, as well as by a University Student Council in each constituent campus.  They enjoy benefits such as selected free services and discounts in health service clinics within the system, and in the Philippine General Hospital, the premier tertiary referral center in the country. Meanwhile, the eLib allows them to access the largest database in the Philippines. Furthermore, they have access to other facilities such as UP’s many research centers and institutions, which place student intellectual and creative growth foremost.

Spacious campuses in various UP units inspire the students’ youthful energies to weave a tapestry of culture that is distinctly Filipino.

Outside the classrooms, students mount theater, dance and musical performances, art exhibits, poetry-reading sessions, film screenings that set their imagination free, quench their thirst for new experiences, and explore the dimensions of their creativity.

The vigorous cultural life in UP makes classes beyond the classroom shape a collective consciousness critical yet constructive, global yet uniquely Filipino, imaginative yet rooted in the nation’s heritage.

How do I find the websites of UP units and departments?
You can find links to constituent universities and their respective colleges and departments by accessing the main website. You can also find a list of the UP’s research centers in the UP Links page.

How can I get a UP Webmail address?
Only UP students, faculty and staff are entitled to the free email service. Visit the UP Webmail site for instructions on how to activate your account.

Can I register for classes online?
Students can pre-enlist in available classes through the Computerized Registration System (CRS) sites of each constituent university.

Where can I get news and updates about UP on the internet?
News and features about UP can be found on the websites of the UP Forum and UP Newsletter, official system-wide publications of the UP.

Can I access the UP libraries online?
Yes. Some constituent universities have an online database where you can search the collections of their libraries.
